» New NWA AFA FMLA Task Force

sick December 11, 2009 - Complaints of invasion of privacy and other problems continue to be reported to AFA, over the Delta Family Medical Leave processing.  In the past our FML was handled in a fairly straightforward and non-invasive manner by NWA Central Administration.  Now, we must learn to work with the outsourced company that Delta uses for Family Medical Leave.  Your MEC has formed a FMLA Task Force, to work on issues and complaints that continue to be reported to AFA representatives.  Please contact them at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).  For questions/problems related to On The Job Injuries, please contact your OJI Committee Chair and Vice Chair on the MEC OJI web page. Please review your rights under HIPAA and FMLA HERE.  For a Long Term Disability Insurance FAQ, click HERE

» OJI’s Document, Document, Document!

There’s a method in the business world (where there are wolves aplenty), and it comes in mighty handy when you’re working to protect yourself and cover other aspects of which are out of your control, and there’s the possibility that someone will try to deny or try blaming you when things go wrong.  Just as in the fairy tale, you can leave a trail—an audit trail—so when that scurrilous corporate manager or co-worker starts pointing fingers at you, you can simply say, “Wait a minute, let’s follow the markers I’ve left behind and find out what’s really been happening.”  Emails and documented records of all those you call with specific dates and time and who you talked to goes a long way in creating a audit trail if needed in the future.

Most importantly, emails are intimate and informal, which is the way you want to go when paving an audit trail. And since most collaborative work these days is done via email, your audit letter is part of the natural workflow. If your email messages are crafted correctly, no one will have to know that you’re actually creating an audit trail as you go, nor will they feel alarmed by what you’re writing. There’s no need to blame anyone; rather use the emails to update partners (Anyone at NWA, Central Admin, Liberty Mutual, etc.) on the current status of the Injury and alert them to potential pitfalls ahead.  A well-placed audit email here or there doesn’t hurt a bit. In fact, when the big, bad wolf comes chasing you down, an email trail can really help save the day.  Documents for help in keeping track of your ongoing situation are to the right, under OJI Print Resources.
