SITUATIONAL AWARENESS: WATCH YOUR STUFF

ALERT!  FCO - We have received reports regarding the ATM located across and down the street from Harry’s Bar in Rome. Several crew members found unexplained charges on their credit card statements after using the ATM located on the bank’s outside wall, which appears to have been tampered with. For the health of your credit or debit card, use the ATM located inside the bank. Click HERE for helpful safety tips on using for ATM/Debit card transactions.

Don’t let your luggage grow legs or your wallet sprout wings. Cash, jewelry, passports and IDs remain quick and easy targets for theft, home or abroad, indoors or out. It’s easy to let your guard down in a comfort zone, including hotel lobbies, aircraft cabins and crew lounges. Never leave purses or totes unsecured in the galley during service. Stow belongings in enclosed compartments, bins or closets near your jumpseat and/or working area. Don’t keep ID’s or cash in uniform jackets or apron pockets, if they remain accessible to others when not in use. It’s always a good idea to keep purses, wallets and cell phones with you when cleaning crews or outside personnel have cabin access on the ground. Small combination locks can secure your entire suitcase, or just a laptop depending on luggage design. Remind your co-workers to be mindful, too, if your see an incident “waiting to happen.”

Should you become a theft victim while on a trip (or anytime), it is always best to file a police report. If property reimbursement will be made through an insurance company, it is usually required, anyway. Fill out an Inflight Incident Report, and talk directly with base management about your options. As always, keep your local council apprised of all such issues. Click HERE for additional hotel safety and security tips.
